With less than two months left for 2022 to wrap, we have finally had the BIGGEST Sunday of the year! While Spartan Poker’s Final Table Series (FTS) 5.0 concluded with a bang, PokerBaazi’s inaugural G.O.A.T. stole the show!
India’s first, and to date, biggest online tournament, offered a never-before-seen ₹7 Crores in guarantee! The ₹11,000 buy-in, 8 Qualifier-long mega tournament registered 7,233 entries to hit a new record by generating a jaw-dropping ₹7.20 Crores prize pool!
The finale of such an event was, expectedly, a heavily contested one. In the end, Rohit Kumar bagged the bragging rights of becoming the first-ever G.O.A.T champion and collected a life-changing ₹94.69 Lakhs for his breakout run. A heads-up deal ensured Puneet Sachan a monstrous ₹68.73 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.
Kumar, a 35-year-old data scientist at Walmart, residing in Bengaluru, said the following on his GOAT victory, “Struggle and failure teach us the most.” Wise words from a man who now has the second-largest online score in the domestic circuit, after Abhishek Maheshwari, PokerBaazi’s first-ever EndBoss champion.
Given the magnitude of the event, the top 10 finishers in the GOAT entered the ‘Millionaire’s Club.’ Besides Kumar and Sachan, the eight-handed final table comprised Young Gun Anmol Mehta (3rd for ₹31.52 Lakhs), Avish Sharma (4th for ₹27.13 Lakhs), Shashank Shekhar (5th for ₹23.03 Lakhs), Vishal Kumar (6th for ₹19.43 Lakhs), Vinayak Bajaj (7th for ₹16.19 Lakhs) and Anish Grover (8th for ₹13.24 Lakhs).
It was a choc-a-block lineup on PokerBaazi yesterday, and shipping the site’s other Sunday flagship, the (6-Max) BSS Championship, was Mohammad ‘Thepokerlion’ Shabaz for ₹11.54 Lakhs. WSOP Online bracelet winner Kartik Ved secured a runner-up finish worth ₹8.08 Lakhs and pocketed ₹9.95 Lakhs overall through five ITM finishes, crossing ₹9 Crores in tracked online winnings.
Online phenom Vaibhav Sharma came out on top in PokerBaazi`s BSS HighRoller, netting ₹6.77 Lakhs following a heads-up deal with Ayush Garg (2nd for ₹6.72 Lakhs). Sharma accumulated a whopping ₹11.30 Lakhs in Sunday winnings, hitting ₹9 Crores in online winnings. Garg collected ₹6.86 Lakhs in total earnings, storming into the “₹7 Crore Club.”
Gokul Raj ended an over three-month dry spell last night when he nailed PokerBaazi’s BSS SuperStack for ₹5.85 Lakhs (won ₹6.33 Lakhs overall) after besting Young Gun Aayush Arya (2nd for ₹3.72 Lakhs) heads-up.
Spartan Poker lit up the felts with a litany of mouth-watering tourneys as the FTS 5.0 wrapped up proceedings. Headlining the Sunday lineup was the ₹2 Crores GTD FTS #56 Main Event that crowned a champion in high-stakes crusher Sajal Gupta who took home a personal-best ₹39.67 Lakhs payday! Gupta also won himself a diamond-studded gold emblazoned Medallion studded with a 3-carat diamond and 37 grams of gold, along with an exclusive NFT! The lawyer-turned-poker pro Armaan Kochhar also pocketed a career-best ₹24.89 Lakhs for his second-place finish in the FTS 5.0 showstopper.
Abhishek Kumar got himself an FTS Gold Medallion after taking down the FTS #53 Sunday Special for ₹12.07 Lakhs (his first title in three months). He collected a career-best ₹12.80 Lakhs through six deep runs.
Young Guns Sanat Mehrotra (Won FTS #55 Maestro for ₹3.94 Lakhs) and Gaurav Sood (Won FTS #52 for ₹3.08 Lakhs) and Melo Partin (Won FTS #54 Double Chance for ₹2.13 Lakhs), won the last few FTS 5.0 Silver Medallions.
Tanmay Benara was the last player standing in PokerStars India’s Sunday headliner, Sunday Special – Boosted Guarantee, netting a site-best ₹4.63 Lakhs (won ₹5.50 Lakhs overall).
Vishal Bajaj won the second EPT Prague Step 3 qualifier on PokerStars India, securing an all-expenses paid package to the upcoming series worth ₹6 Lakhs.
